About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is part of medical system called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has been developed over 5,000 years.

This medical system is rooted in ancient Taoist philosophy which views a person as an energy system in which the mind and body are unified, each influencing each other. TCM sees disharmonies like sickness and pain as developing from an imbalance of opposing forces, called Yin and Yang.

In TCM, we use a holistic approach that treats the entire person. We find the root cause of your condition, and when the root is addressed, all of the accompanying symptoms fall away.

Acupuncture can treat a wide range of health issues and imbalances, supporting both your physical and mental health.

How does it work?

In TCM, there is energy, called qi (“chee”) which is present in all living beings. Qi powers physiological functions and activity.

Qi is said to flow through the body along certain pathways called channels or meridians. When qi is circulating freely, good health is maintained, but when the flow of qi becomes blocked or is deficient, it disrupts the system and creates pain and dysfunction. Pain is actually qi and blood that have stagnated.

Acupuncture promotes the body’s ability to heal itself. It works by stimulating certain points on the channels to restore proper circulation of qi and bring the body into balance.

Acupuncture treatments release natural painkillers, such as endorphins and endogenous opioids, and influence the autonomic nervous system, allowing you to rest into a parasympathetic state.

Acupuncture is evidence-based: there is a large body of modern research proving its efficacy. It is very safe when performed by licensed practitioners who have completed extensive training, studies, and clinical supervision.
